The barn owl is one of the most fascinating creatures that can be found almost everywhere except in the polar and desert regions. As they are found all over the world, there can be minor differences in size and color pattern among species of different regions.
All in all, these are considered small, having 12.6-15.8 in (32-40 cm) in length and weighing about 14.1-24.7 oz (400-700 g). Barn owls are generally a pale mixture of brown and white with piercing black eyes. In nature, they can be seen in dense trees slumbering in their nests on branches. When nighttime arrives, Barn owls wake up and begin their quest for prey. They soar low repeatedly over open habitats.
They usually feed on small rodents and recognize them by their sounds. Despite the fact that these animals reproduce many times, most of their offspring don’t witness the days of adulthood. However, if all goes well, they can live up to 18 years. As their name suggests, these birds prefer abandoned barns or similar places to build a nest and reside. So if you have a barn, it’s better to check it out. You may find an interesting nest there.
