Blue-footed booby

With their eccentric appearance and peculiar name, Blue-footed boobies may seem like a character from an animated movie, but they are very much real. These birds have brown wings with a white body. But their most noticeable feature is their blue feet.

Numerous islands in the tropical eastern Pacific are home to many Blue-footed boobies. Though they can be found in the United States and Canada, it’s best to look for them around the Gulf of Mexico.

Watching these birds look for fish is a meditating and serene experience. They follow the fish in the water in great flocks and make a smooth glorious dive when they’re ready.

Boobies are not particularly large. They are about 32 to 34 inches and weigh around 3.25 pounds. Their blue feet are not only intriguing to us. Bluer feet among boobies mean more chance of finding a mate. When it comes to nesting, boobies' offspring don’t have an enjoyable experience.

Boobies avoid making any nest and they lay their eggs on the ground. However, to protect the eggs, boobies defecate on them and make a circular wall around them.

Boobies are tame and friendly around people and pleasant to interact with.
